Lawn maintenance Tips for Throwing a Backyard BBQ Party
I don't know about you, but I think a backyard barbecue party is one of the most fun and least inexpensive ways of getting a group of friends together. We plan on throwing several this year, including an early evening Monday Night football cookout, a Sunday Funday for the family, a larger party for our son's graduation, and two birthday parties.
After deciding on what food to offer, I tend to focus my efforts on lawn care because a patio that looks and feels great creates an wonderful atmosphere for your outdoor events, and can lift the spirits of those attending. This is a good time to pause and introduce a few lawn maintenance tips that can make your party a success. Today we describe a few services that should be considered in advance of the party date.
Three lawn maintenance tips for throwing a Backyard BBQ
Tackle Weeds early. Take care of your weeds 2 weeks before the party. If you use herbicides on your lawn or hire a service to manage lawn weeds, keep in mind that it can take up to 10-14 days for the treated weeds to completely disappear. If personally digging up weeds with a digging knife or dandelion tool as I do, you will create small holes throughout the lawn. Having these extra two weeks is great lawn maintenance because it gives the grass time to grown and fill in the spaces.
Prune your trees & shrubs. Proper pruning helps maintain the size and shape of plants, increases air and light penetration into the foliage canopy, and promotes flowering and fruiting. Don't start pruning until you first remove the dead and broken branches. Read up on the pruning cutting techniques and methods so that you can use the appropriate cut or style for each plant.
No watering 2 or 3 days before the party. One of the really practical lawn maintenance tips for prepping before a party is to simply not water the grass for 2 or 3 days before the event. A lawn that's soggy will not only ruin your guests' shoes and your lawn, it can cause lawn furniture and tables to sink in the ground.
I certainly hope these lawn maintenance tips have been helpful. Remember, when it comes to making your backyard look great, one of the best lawn care tips is simply to start early and give your lawn the proper TLC it needs before you want it to shine.
